Did you know that migraines are a major cause of workplace disability? And that is only one of many types of headaches that people can experience. In the U.S., migraine affects about 1 in 6 adults and is the leading cause of disability for people aged 15 to 49. More than just a "severe headache", this can often include nausea, vomiting, light sensitivity, sound sensitivity, vestibular dysfunction, and even mimic stroke at times. Yet, this is a very treatable condition and, at Direct Neurology Care, we can help you get this under control, sometimes even without prescribed medications.
Get some shut eye. Sleep quality, not just quantity, is important in preventing headaches. If you are not sleeping well, and you don't know why, talk to your doctor about this first.
Avoid too much over the counter medication. Taking anti-inflammatories more than twice a week can cause rebound headaches.
Go easy on the caffeine. Remember- a cup is only 8 ounces. Have one in the morning if you must, but more can contribute to daily headaches and disrupt sleep.
