Did you know that Neuropathy or "nerve damage" is not irreversible? Peripheral nerves can regenerate, but very slowly. A damaged nerve can only grow 1 millimeter per day, which means that it can take months or years to heal depending on where the damage is located, whether the source of the injury has since been eliminated, as well as co-occurring illness.
Top DNC Neuropathy Tips:
Avoid Alcohol. Not only is this a direct peripheral nerve toxin, but too much alcohol can preclude absorption of important vitamins that support nerve function.
Don't take excessive vitamins either. While certain vitamins are important for nerve function, not all are safe at high doses. B6, for instance, can cause problems if the level is too low or if it is too high.
If you have diabetes, do not assume your neuropathy is due to diabetes without further investigation. Talk to your doctor about what additional workup may be warranted. A neurologic examination to rule out other causes of nerve pain may also be indicated.
