Did you know that: "Vertigo" is a term used specifically to refer to the sensation of spinning?
"Dizziness" on the other hand, is an umbrella term which can include vertigo, but also includes the sensation of rocking, linear movement, imbalance, disorienting visual movement, lightheadedness or even feeling as if you are going to pass out.
Spend some time observing what you feel before coming to the doctor for the problem of "dizziness". Knowing whether you have true vertigo or some other sensation can significantly change the course of your workup, the treatment, and the outcome. Your doctor can guide you, but only you can tell us what you are feeling.
"It's just vertigo" is not an acceptable diagnosis! Ask your physician why the vertigo is occurring. There are several causes of this symptom and while we may sometimes find it difficult to reach a conclusion, you should at least leave the visit with some possibilities in mind.
